Ryan and Trixie

You may recognize some of these backdrops from previous photos (hey, I know what I like!)... but Ryan and Trixie are so awesome, they make every image fun and fresh! I can't wait to shoot their wedding in July!

Spring Wedding

From the first look to the grand exit, Sarah and Chris's wedding was a blast! They had such a laid-back attitude about their special day - "All I need is a groom, a license, and a witness," Sarah (who's got this adorable Maggie Gyllenhaal thing going on) is reported to have said. They weren't even the least bit fazed by the thunderstorm that raged during the outdoor reception! The best part of the wedding, in my opinion, were the hundreds of red and yellow balloons... but the Pinata bash, his-and-hers sombreros, and delicious brownie cake were fabulous too!

I had a clever title for this post, and then I forgot it.

Nevertheless, here are Genesis and Micah - a couple of all-around awesome kids. We couldn't quite talk Micah into wearing his Indiana Jones costume, but you can tell he'd make a great action hero. And Genesis is just as sweet as she can be!

A Rainy Day

Nick, Kim, and their 8-month-old son Shepherd are adventurers. They're moving to China in August (Nick and Kim have been teaching English there since 2005, but came home for Shepherd's happy arrival). Kim ran the 10K Bolder Boulder the morning of the shoot, and still had tons of energy. And, even though it was raining cats and dogs, they were still up for shooting outdoors! I loved hearing about their love for China, catching Shepherd's laughs, and being out in the the spring-time rain!

Carter

Last week Ben and Charity brought in their sweet, 6-day-old boy, Carter James. I'll surely be posting more of this little dude... but for now, here are two of my favorites!

Serious Business

Today I learned two things: 1. Early-morning shoots can be fun, and 2. Don't bring bubble wands that resemble light sabres to photo shoots involving little boys! Even though Clive was upset that we wouldn't let him pose with the "light sabre," he still let me take some really beautiful shots. I love the intensity of his expressions - and look at those eyes!

Sean, Gina, and Haley

Last year I donated a portrait session at an auction to benefit the Children's Speech and Reading Center (for more information, click here). Sean and Gina were the winners of the auction, and so I had the privilege of meeting them and their beautiful daughter Haley! If you're wondering what's making Haley (and her parents) give those beautiful smiles - it was a puppet show being put on behind my head by my lovely sister/assistant Hannah. I mean really, who doesn't love a puppet show?

Abbie

Just wanted to post a few more photos from one of this year's most awesome senior portrait sessions. Abbie's folks gave her the job of choosing her own photographer - and I'm so glad she picked me! She brought a suitcase full of wonderful outfits (including vintage dresses once owned by her grandmother, an electric turquoise prom dress, and purple jeans). Abbie is a great example of my favorite quote by Vivienne Westwood, which I'd recommend to all my clients: "When in doubt, overdress."

The Great Studio Remodel

We recently decided that the studio just had too much empty space, so we decided to build some walls, change some colors, and generally make the place more home-y and fabulous. Thanks to the building prowess of my dad and husband, we've made some serious progress... and some serious messes!

The project isn't done yet, but we're hoping to have everything finished next week some time. We're also planning a grand unveiling party soon.. stay tuned!

As always, I want to thank you for your support of Photo de Novo! We love you!
