Laura and Martin

Laura and Martin's wedding happened on August 30, 2008, in Monument, CO. Laura and I met years and years ago while we were both living in Vienna, Austria, and I jumped at the chance to shoot her wedding! Laura is earning her doctorate at Yale University; Martin is from Germany and spends a good part of the year touring Europe as a trombonist. Everything about the wedding was unique and amazing - from Laura's dress (which Martin picked out), to the unbelievable music (which included a trombone quartet for the ceremony - joined by Martin for a special song, a bluegrass band for the cocktail hour, and a jazz band for the reception), to the couple (with the help of their friends) performing their own ceremony. After the ceremony, with Laura still in her heels, the couple and I hiked up to Monument Rock for a few photos before we re-joined the party for some of the funniest toasts and best dancing I've witnessed this year. Hooray for adventurous couples like these two!

Emily and Kory

I'm doing my end-of-year archive, which means looking over all the images from 2008. So, over the next couple weeks I'll be posting this year's greatest hits. We'll start with Emily and Kory. They're artists and adventurers - they went to Thailand on their honeymoon! Their family is great, too - you'll see pictures of Emily's grandfather, who wrote original poems for the occasion, Emily's nephew (also the ringbearer), who caught the couple a cricket for good luck, and Kory's gracious parents (Mom with Grandpa, Dad with flowers). We had a great day, despite the rain!

Gallery Show!!!

I teach a couple of Photography classes to high school students through Larimer County. We go shoot for an hour a week, and at the end of twelve weeks we have a show in my studio. These kids are seriously amazing - most of them have never held a "real" camera (no, camera phones don't count) prior to the start of class, and their work ALWAYS blows my mind. And the show is always a really positive experience for the kids - they get to sell their work (all proceeds go directly to them), and it's awesome to see them so proud of themselves!!!

Anyway, our next show just happens to be coming up in a couple of weeks. Here's the info:

Friday, November 7th, 6-10pm
@ Photo de Novo Studio
116 North College Avenue, Suite 8
(above Beau Jo's Pizza)
in Old Town Fort Collins

The show is on a First Friday, when all the galleries in Old Town have opening receptions for their current shows - so make sure you check out some other places after you visit us!

Oh, and student photos are selling for only $20 apiece. Like I said, they get every penny of it. At the last show, we sold over half of the students' work - so get there early if you want to have first dibs! Maybe there are one or two people on your holiday shopping list who'd love an original piece of art!

OK, I've plugged it enough! We'll see you there!

Cold Weather Portrait Special!!!

Every year I say I'm going to shoot in the snow, because I always get such great, unique images, but then I get cozy with a cup of tea and decide not to go out. Not this year! I'm offering a Cold Weather Special - all location shoots booked between now and the end of the year will receive 50% off the session fee (whether it's snowing or not)! That means your session price could be as low as $75. Come brave the cold with me, and let's see what we can create!

Here's what happened when Alison was brave:

The Asbill Family

Ahhhhh... two-year-olds. When I first started shooting, I was terrified of children! They're just so darned unpredictable. But I soon learned that's actually a good thing. Kids are full of energy, spontaneity, and unrehearsed beauty, and they lend that energy to everyone around them! Here's Kai with his parents, Miller and Deb.

Baby Thomson

Here is the adorable Thomson Hess, accompanied by his parents, Jessica and Chris. He was the most well-behaved baby in the world - he didn't pee or cry or anything! What a guy!

Oh, and here's Thomson in the oven!
